Get Your Geek On

Hey Friends! I am popping in today to share this card I made that is perfect for the teenage boys in your life. I find crafting for my high school age son, but I also know when he loves when I have a card just for him. Lately I have been really focusing on these card designed for those who are little bit more difficult to create for. I am just loving how today’s card came out using goodies from White Rose Crafts.

Step One: On a piece of watercolor paper, lay the Stampers Anonymous stencil Circuit Stencil and blend in ink. I used both Weathered Wood and Iced Spruce Distress Oxide.

Step Two: Around the edges of the watercolor paper, blend black ink. I used Black Soot Distress Oxide.

Step Three: On a second piece of watercolor paper, stamp the Stamping Bella Oddball Geek stamp set with some black ink. I used Versafine Onyx Black.

Step Four: Color the image with color pencils. I used my Polychromos. Fussy cut the image.

Step Five: Pull and trim papers that will coordinate with the background. I pulled both a piece of Aspire Petallics in Cooper Ore and a piece of gear themed paper from the 13Arts Victoriana Collection paper pad.

Step Six: Adhere a piece of thick foam to the cardstock to add dimension to the project.

Step Seven: Adhere the the copper cardstock to the background stencil. Adhere the gear paper to the top of the copper on. Add a second piece of foam to the fussy cut stamped image.

Step Eight: Adhere the stamped image to the card frame, letting him hand off a little.

Step Nine: Add gears from the Kaisercraft Mini Wooden Flourishes Cogs. Tuck each cog under the raised pieces so they look like they are peeking out.

Step Ten: Using a strong liquid adhesive add Abracadazzler Bead Mix Gold Rush pearls so they are flowing out of the image.

Step Eleven: Add more Gold Rush pearls to carefully picked places.

Step Twelve: On a scrap piece of watercolor paper, stamp the sentiment from the Stamping Bella Oddball Geek stamp set, and fussy cut it out. Pull a scrap of Aspire Petallics in Cooper Ore.

Step Thirteen: Adhere the sentiment using a little dimensional tape.

I really love how this card came out. I think it has all the components of a well crafted card, but still cool enough for a young man. I really feel that each layer of this project really added to the over all ‘coolness’.

Let me know in the comments below which layer of the project you like best. Until then, happy crafting.

  1. This is just a fantastic card (even more so when you’re making such a hard-to-cater-for age group!). There’s so much texture and detail… Absolutely stunning!
