With the beginning of April comes a brand new challenge over at Christmas Card Throwdown. This time around we are hosting a theme challenge. We are looking for designs with a Musical Notation.
I pulled out the Art Impression stamp Jolly Carolers and stamped it out onto some good card stock. For reasons I really can’t explain, I decided to color in this image using sepia tones. It is one of my favorite things about old music paper, especially from old hymnals. Those pages always seemed to have browned into this beautiful aged paper. So I colored the snowmen to look like this aged brown paper. Let me tell you, finding different shades of sepia is a bit of a challenge, even with copics. I wish I could tell you all the combinations I used to color this image, but alas, there were just too many to remember. I do know that the snow was colored in E40, E43 and colorless blender. I fussy cut out the image (leaving the snow on the ground), and adhered it to some music paper. I added an old sentiment stamp and added by hand a couple of musical notes.
I’m not going to lie, the coloring was pretty difficult, but I love the results in the end. I can’t wait to see what musical notations you use for your christmas card.
I love your snowmen Ek, and the sepia tones work so well (worth the effort!). They look like they’re having the time of their life! Lucinda
