Okay, so I’m sneaking on here today to share one last design showcasing Craftin Desert Divas February Mood Board Social Media Challenge.
If you are new to this challenge it takes place over on Facebook. All you need to do is craft a card, tag or other design inspired by this months mood board using Craftin Desert Divas products.
And while your here, I figured I would announce a little move I had recently. Yes, that’s right I’ve moved, not houses, but Design Teams. This past week I was moved over from the Digi Design Team at Crafting Desert Divas to their main Design Team. And to celebrate the move, I’ve decided to share a card using one of my favorite CDD stamp sets.
Now, the mood board this month was easy to design for at the beginning of the month and the days leading up to Valentine’s Day. However, now that the holiday is over, I find myself a little stuck on how to create a card using the love themed mood board without make a V-day card. So I decided to make a card for a friend, and really play up the colors in the board as well as the snow scenes.
I pulled out Snow Day stamp set and pulled all the little critters out. I have a little problem where I desperately want to use all the images and color them up. So today I decided to give into it, and stamped out all the little guys, not once, but twice, along with the sentiment and two different sized snowflakes.
I decided I wanted to use four different shades of red in copic markers, so the card didn’t feel flat only using one shade. I used each shade four times, two coloring the insides (bellys, ears, eyes, mouth, and stripped tail) of the lemurs, and two using the other on the outside of the lemur (fur, face, hands, feet and stripped tail).
The first combination, the lightest shades of red, was R20, R22, and R24. The second combination, a tomato red, was R05, R24, and R46. The third combination, my deepest hue, was R46, R56, and R59. My final combination of red (not pictured) was the truest color of red, R24, R29, and R89. I think the extra time it took to color everything different really paid off in the end, because each little lemur feels different from his friends.
With the little critters all colored it was time for the background. I wanted to keep with the red theme, but knew it could not be any combination of reds, for fear of the whole card becoming a mess. I decided to use a really light hue of pink. I pulled out RV00, Rv10, Rv21 and RV13. I added the darkest tone around each critter, and then started blending them out with lighter shades, so the darkest pop of color was closest to the the lemur and as you drifted out, you got lighter. The snowflakes got colored in with these tones as well. But I knew the background just wasn’t finished. So I grabbed my colorless blender and started adding bleached out snowflakes all over the background. Finally, using my white gelly roll pen, I added even more snowflakes, plus some highlights on the tails, eyes, and ears of all the lemurs.
I adhered the panel to an A2 card frame using my favorite adhesive, 1/4″ Scor Tape. I was a little of the opinion the card needed a little something more, so I pulled out Glimmering Gemstones Sequins, and pulled out a bunch of the pink ones, and some of the little beads. I added the pink sequins in the sky, and the beads onto each of the little snowflakes.
I think the card in the end, while being rather pink and red came out really well, and not too lovey.
