It is time to announce (finally…two weeks seems like such a long time between challenges) a new challenge over at Christmas Card Throwdown. This week we are hosting a color challenge…and the fun is it isn’t a ‘Christmas colors challenge’, but a ‘lets see how creative with these colors and christmas cards you can get challenge’. Yes, this week the colors are Cream, Aqua, and Brown.
Feeling stumped on how to use these colors I went digging through the box of holiday stamps, and came up with the perfect stamp. I pulled out Avery Elle’s Happy Howl-idays and stamped out the image with some black Memento Ink. I went to town coloring in the image with my copics, coloring the dog both brown and cream and added some aqua to the scarf. I grabbed some distress ink in evergreen bough (which is just too juicy) and added some blended color around the edges of the white card stock. I wasn’t happy with the how the distress ink came out…but you know me…I don’t do test runs with cards…what I make is what I make, mistakes and all. I went to stamp on the sentiment…and suddenly…AGHHHH!!!!, I dropped the stamp mucking up the imprint.
I tried…I really did to cover up the mistake. I grabbed some scraps of paper and added it to the card to cover up the error….and it just didn’t work. It just didn’t look right. AGH!!!!!
So, for literally the first time ever, I made the card again… Same image from Avery Elle but this time stamped in brown Memento ink, same copics colors coloring in the pup, same aqua shadowing. This time I stamped out the sentiment, and did NOT muck it up. Since my original distress ink was too juicy, I pulled out peacock feather this time and blended that color around the white card. I trimmed the card down a bit and added it to an A2 card. I hate that I had to redo this. I’m not that person who pretends that I am always perfect, each and every time…I the person who admits the errors and what I don’t like, and how I messed up. Alas…here is the second version of the card. I don’t think the coloring is as good as the first card, but there isn’t a (stupid) messed up sentiment.
Thanks for barring with me while I moaned about all this nonsense. I can’t wait to see what you do with this color challenge. I think it is a fun one, even if it is challenging.
Till next time…
Trop mignon, j’aime beaucoup, biz

This is gorgeous. Such a sweet little dog and I love how simple it looks even though it wasn’t

Wonderful card! I think the little dog is just adorable and that sentiment really made me smile. I love the way you’ve used the colours. Deborah, xx

I hate it when I drop stamps and it’s always near the end, isn’t it? You got there in the end though. He’s perfect for this challenge.
