How is it already Thursday evening? No seriously. How is it already the (almost) end of another week. Things have just rushed by in a blur.
And so many things are happening. It is somehow (I know, I have a theme going on here) already November and the start of this month is also the start of some many fun cool things. The first was both the start of The Daily Marker‘s 30 day coloring challenge. We are already on day three, and if you want to see what I am playing around with, sneak over to my Instagram account.
November 1st also marked the start of Tracey McNeely’s blog In My Creative Opinion 25 Days of Christmas Tags. This is a designer I follow on Instagram, because her cards are always worth a second look, but now I am finding a whole new range to her.
This will be the sixth year that Ms. McNeely puts on this 25 day tag a thon, and I am all over it.
Now, I am not normally a tag maker, but I love the idea of decorating Christmas presents this year with beautiful homemade tags, so I am trying my hand at this fun little challenge. The ladies who are designing inspiration tags make such beautiful tags it is at times a little over whelming.
For Day 1 of the challenge (for lack of a better term) I was totally inspired by two different stamps. One was by the designer Kimberly Rendino and her ‘no peeking’ sentiment, and the other was Tracey McNeely’s red tag design with her beautiful snowflake design. I tried to merge both inspirations onto one tag. I blended some Candied Apple Distress Ink onto a stiff tag and then embossed with white embossing powder both some holiday sentiments and some snowflakes. I added a wired ribbon to the top of the tag as well as some stiff acrylic snow drops.
On Day 2 of the challenge I was inspired by again Tracey McNeely’s tag with her ‘joy’
sentiment and Jinny Newlin’s detailed die cut. I choose to die cut a detailed heart from Spellbinders and then using a Recollections holiday stamp pack, I stamped both the tree and the sentiment with black and green Archival Ink. The tag looked a little dull, so I pulled a holly stamp out and stamped it all over the tag and colored it in simply with a bit of copic marker. I wanted the tree to pop a bit more, so I highlighted the word ‘joy’ with a bit of white gel pen and then added a red crystal and glossy accents over the stamped image. Finally, I added some red and green satin ribbon to the top of the tag.
For Day 3 I was inspired by two different tags that had the same Newton’s Nook stag dies. I do not have the same stag die, but I do have a stamp and die set from Hampton Arts, so I pulled them out to play with. I grabbed a couple sheets of holiday card stock and die cut a tag from the red and white sheet with my Sizzix die. Then I die cut the deer out of the other sheet or card stock and stamped out the sentiment. I adde some simply black stamping behind the deer head and then adhered the deer. Finally I added a bit of rhinestone and green satin ribbon to the top of the tag.
That’s the first three days of the challenge. Come back and peak at the next 22 days over the rest of the month. I will do the tags daily, and most likely link them up a couple days at a time like I did today. Hope you all are inspired as I have been.
