Hey Friends! I thought I would try something a little different today, and whip up some mix media canvases for the holidays. Last year I did a couple of similar things for gift exchanges, and needless to say, the friends have been asking if I was going to do it again. I hadn’t planned on it, but my friends being persistent, encouraged me to do it.
However, after just a bit of thought I realized that two of the newer Joset dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs would create some really cool mix media canvases.
Step One: Trim up two sheets of heavy duty thick mix media card stock to 6×6 inches and 6×4 inches. Also pull out two 6×6 inch canvases. I used a 2 inch thick canvas and another one only 1 inch thick (it was what I had in my stash).
Step Two: Using some Distress Paint (or other crafting paint), dollop out some green paint onto the 6×6 sheet of mix media paper. (I used Twisted Citron, Cracked Pistaschio, Mowed Lawn, Forest Moss, Shabby Shutters and Peeled paint.
Step Three: Using a pallet knife, spread the green paint around the cardstock. Let Dry.
Step Four: Repeat steps two and three using blue paint and the 6×4 sheet of cardstock. (I used Picket Fence, Broken China, Chipped Sapphire, Faded Jeans and Mermaid Lagoon.)
Step Five: Add paint to the thicker canvas letting the two colors overlap (don’t forget the sides of the canvas). I used Burnt Umber and Chromium Oxide Green heavy body paint.
Step Six: While the paint is still wet, add Leaf Green Microfine Glitter over the top of the canvas.
Step Seven: Repeat step five, but using blue and white paint instead. I used Titanium White, Phthalo Blue and Teal.
Step Eight: Repeat step six, this time using Royal Blue Silk Microfine Glitter and Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter.
Step Nine: Once the paint dries, die cut the 6×6 cardstock with the Elegant Christmas Tree inside die. Then die cut with the outside tree die, but only die cut half the tree. Trim off the excess paper with your scissors. Using kids choice glue adhere the cardstock to the green canvas.
Step Ten: Repeat step nine, using the Snowflake Border die set and trim off the excess paper. Using kids choice glue adhere the cardstock to the blue canvas.
Step Eleven: Die cut sentiments out of Words 5- Winter Wishes out of White Soft Finish Cardstock and Ladybug Red Soft Finish Cardstock.
Step Twelve: Using Kids Choice adhere the sentiments to the canvases.
Step Thirteen: Repeat step twelve with the other canvas.
What you end up is two different mix media canvas that look special, but were in fact really easy to create. Both of these are perfect to hang on the wall or set up on a shelf or table somewhere.
Gorgeous projects, that blue canvas is my favourite 🙂
