Christmas Card Throwdown #10 Reminder

CCT10If you haven’t played with this month’s color challenge over at Christmas Card Throwdown, this is the reminder that you still have time.  The colors for this challenge are yellow, kraft and gold…not your most go to color combination for the holidays, making this challenge exceptionally fun.

Last week I sort of went way off the beaten path for the type of card I designed using these colors.  The design just wasn’t the obvious one, and only after I finished making the card, EK Gorman CCT10.1 did I realize that there was a probably a more traditional choice.  So I found myself at quite a dilemma this week.  Did I take the (to me more) obvious design choice with these colors, or do I expand upon what I started last week, and make another really nontraditional Christmas card designs.  As is my way, I obvious went the road last traveled.

For today’s Christmas Card I pulled out a Bugaboo digital Christmas stamp and started coloring it in with my spectrum noir colored pencils.  I pulled out next my some Viva gold crackle paint and painted it thinly into the image.  I fussy cut out the image, and set it a side.  I grabbed a pallet knife, and spread the crackly thickly onto some kraft paper.  I let the crackle dry and then pulled out a Darcie’s sentiment and stamped it onto the paper with some archival ink.  Finally, I adhered back on the Bugaboo image, and called it done.

Again, not an obvious choice on how to use these colors, but I really like how this one came out.  I really can’t wait to see how you play with this unusual color combination.  Do you go with a more traditional holiday card, or do you take it some where very different?
