Hello crafty friends. I am here sharing today a new challenge going on over at Christmas Card Throwdown. This is the second challenge for the month of April and this time it is a technique challenge. This time the technique is ‘shaker’ cards.
There is a universal agreement that I should not make shaker cards. In fact, shaker cards are on the long lists of cards I really shouldn’t make. Others include cards featuring embossing, lots of layers, or anything with lace. This is mainly because my paper piecing skills have little desired effect. However, a challenge is a challenge, so I attacked this shaker card with full gusto.
I choose a design that I really hoped would distract from the shaker element, and frankly this digital stamp from Bugaboo I felt was pretty awesome. (If it offends, well, I will apologize in advance.) I have several friends who I know would love to get this card, because their since of humor runs pretty parallel with mine.
I fussy cut out the Christmas tree from the digi (using both scissors and a craft knife). Then I colored in the Stella image with my copics. I built the shaker card (if you don’t know how to do this, there are far better tutorials out there than what I can give you.) Trust me this process took too long, and was rather unsuccessful at times. There are sequins everywhere,m because frankly, that’s how I roll (or fumble, you pick). This isn’t the worst shaker card in history, but let’s be honest…this really isn’t my thing (for the worst card in the history of shaker go check out some of my previous attempts). I do like the card however, but I think it is the sentiment and the coloring that makes it.
I honestly, can’t wait to see what you design. I love the idea of shaker cards, and seriously am impressed by those who have the talent to create them. I am so looking forward to what you create.
You made such a pretty shaker card :-)) I like the “shaker” christmas tree … realy fantastic idea. Hugs, Andreja

It’s a wonderful card and I love the idea of making the tree the shaker element! I am also a fully paid-up member of the anti-shaker movement 🙂 I also have my own self-imposed rule that I always fail to follow – Don’t leave DT cards that are either shakers or involve triple-time stamping to the last couple of hours before the post is due…:-) Xx
