Cupcake Inspirations Challenge #376

cic376It is Sunday, which makes it time for a new challenge over at Cupcake Inspirations.  This week we are sporting a color challenge, looking for designs whipped up with the colors forest, papaya, and eggplant.

And on a side note, who doesn’t want one of those beautiful little cupcakes?  Yum.

This week we are sponsored by Newtons Nooks who is offering one random participant newtonsnookdesignsthis week $25 in store credit.

This week I found myself a little stuck in the muck of design.  I just couldn’t come up with a something that I even liked.  I don’t know if it was due to the dark colors, or just over thinking things, but for once I tossed a bunch of img_3991work into the bin.  This one came close, but ended up on the cutting room floor when I just simply messed it up over inking the paper.

In the end I went back to basics.   I just KISSed it…as in ‘keep it simple, stupid’.  I colored in a sweet little Newton stamp from the Boo Crew with my copics, and fussy cut him out.  Then I snagged a bit of dark purple card stock and trimmed it up.  I didn’t cut it even, so I went with it, and really cut it uneven.  Then I snagged some dark green halloween printed paper, that just happened to have some orange with in it and placed it under the whole assembly.

Once again I thought I had just mucked up another design…but I was too tired to start over.  So I tried something.  I grabbed my Versamark and white embossing powder and started embossing candy onto the purple card stock.  I worked.  It made the card settle in a way that I liked.  I would have been easier to emboss everything had the card not already been assembled, but in the end, I liked the results.

Take a few minutes and pop on over to the blogs of the other design time Sweeties to see how cute their designs are this week.  It is a super diverse group of work this week.

That’s all for today.  I’m really looking forward to seeing what you all do with this super fun dark pallet.  Till then, craft something pretty.

  1. I agree: a challenging colour combination that saw me experiencing frustrations similar to yours. Your perseverance – and decision to “keep it simple – have lead to a fabulous result! Your ghostie cat is darling, surrounded by all the sweet treats! A++++ from my perspective!

  2. This turned out so awesome! I love the end result. Thanks for sharing your journey to getting to this card! I often have the same problem – things are not working the way I imagine and I take apart and redo! Glad I’m not the only one. I did kind of get a kick out of your first version where Newton is dreaming of the vampire bunny! So funny! Thanks for featuring our stamps today!
